Whispers of God

I slipped into the warm darkness of my bedroom, my eyes moving quickly past my own charmeuse covered bed to the small figure wrapped in the Winnie the Pooh blanket on his little mattress, the small, comfy mattress on the floor beside my sister's bed.
He was awake.  His wide, dark eyes were looking into mine.  "Are you going to put your PJ's on and get in bed with your computer, Emma?"
I couldn't resist.  The dear, dear little boy!  "Yes.  I am."  I slid down next to him and gave him a hug.  We sat together then, in the quiet shadows, with the closet light glimmering yellow on the carpet near us, and talked in whispers, though now my mind remembers naught of those words, only the breathtaking ones that came next.

"Is God here with us?"  His little voice came clearly to my open ears.
"Yes!  He is."
A large gasp came from his small, shadowed face.  "He is?"
I nodded.  Then, in a quieter tone, a drifting whisper, I heard his small voice say, "Hi God."
The smile that broke out on my face then affected my voice as I asked Matthew, "Can you hear Him say 'hi' back?
He nodded there in the dark.  "Yes, but I can't see Him very well."

I think I told him then about why it is we can't see God, that his beauty is so, so, so great that we would not live if we were to behold it, and so he must remain invisible to us.  But yet he loves us so that he is always, always near, all around us, he and his angels.

"But Emma", said Matthew, as I rose to slip into the bathroom.  "Why is He here with me?"
"Because He loves you."
A great sigh exploded from him.  "He loves me?"
"Yes!"  Oh, yes, dear one, how He loves you, thought I.
"But why does He love me?"
I felt then, inadequate to tell him this.  How do you answer such a question?  Why does He love us?  I think I said it was because He made us, yet such a reply seems to hardly count for the amazing love He gives us.  He more made us because He wanted someone to love and to love him, than that He loves us because He made us.  Yet, it goes both ways.

Ahh... ponderings.  I haven't the answers.  None of us have.  We must only continue on our journey, one step at a time.

Auf Wiedersehen,

Emma

Oh, how beautiful, Emma! Tears sprang into my eyes as I read this...God is so good to us, isn't He?

Matthew is so adorably cute! One of the cutest little boys I've ever seen...☺. It's little boys and girls like him, that remind us of the simple beauties of life, and God's ever perfect love.

Johanna's photos are breathtakingly beautiful!

Love,
Emily

That is so sweet! Don't you love how little children's hearts are so open to God, and how they just love Him? No wonder He told us to have faith like a little child!

Thanks for sharing that touching conversation with us!

Love,
Amy

P.S. Julia and I are going to post the book meme soon. . . we've been a little busy lately!

Gahhh, this evening gets more and more emotional as I stay up. Maybe I should go to bed. I have to say that reading this post was just incredible.

There's something to be learned from that. As we grow older in the world, we will still always be little children to God. We need to learn to learn and understand God through a child's eyes and mind.

P.S. I hope that wasn't too long. :P
